Le Cirque 2000 Hosts Oscar Party
The Associated Press
For the second year in a row, Le Cirque 2000 will be the site for the official New York Oscar Night Celebration.
About 10 percent of the membership of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences lives in the New York area, and traveling to Los Angeles is "a long day's journey into night," said Arlene Dahl, organizer of the Oscar festivities for the Academy's New York Events Committee.
Those attending the event will dine on Oscar-themed dishes while watching Sunday night's awards show on a large-screen television.
"In New York, it's more like the Oscars were when they started as a banquet," Dahl said.
The menu prepared by chef Pierre Schaedelin features foods inspired by the best-picture nominees: "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," a seaweed salad with shrimp and scallops; a "Gladiator" entree of filet of beef with red-wine sauce served with two "Erin Brockovich" stuffed tomatoes; a "Chocolat" cassolette panna cotta (chocolate custard); and for chocoholics, a "Traffic" chocolate plate with powdered sugar and a chocolate straw.
